Antonia Giomi (20) was chosen by experts at YDance (Scottish Youth Dance), the national dance organisation for children and young people, for its flagship contemporary dance company and is preparing for a whirlwind of intensive creative weekends and performances.

She takes her place alongside 12 others to work with Anna Kenrick, YDance Artistic Director and NYDCS Choreographer, to create an exciting new piece to be premiered in March 2016 and toured nationally and internationally throughout the year.

Antonia said: “I feel that being part of the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland is going to open many doors for my future career as a dancer.

“By being a member of this company I will gain new skills and find my own vocabulary of dance which will help me gain a place at University to further my studies and training.”

Dancing since the age of 10, Giomi currently studies dance full time at Glasgow Clyde Colleges’ Dance Studio Scotland. She spent summer of 2015 touring venues in Scotland with YDance’s Project Y Performance Course, a four-week summer intensive dance training programme for dancers aged 16 to 21.

Most recently she danced with YDance at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships and now looks forward to spending a year dancing with the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland.

The National Youth Dance Company of Scotland is YDance’s flagship contemporary dance company.
