Appeal to catch owner who let rabbit starve and suffer in Stepps

A member of the public took the starving, pain-wracked rabbit into the charity’s centre after finding it on Cumbernauld Road, Stepps, on Friday, October 25.

The poor bunny was examined by a vet and found to be emaciated, suffering from an infected abscess in its mouth and an eye infection.

Inspector Stacey Erwin said: “This rabbit was found in an absolutely horrendous condition and whoever owned this poor animal clearly had no concern whatsoever for its welfare.

“It appears to have been kept in very dirty living conditions for a prolonged period of time and its fur was heavily matted with faeces and urine.

“It should have been seen by a vet long before it was found. We are urging anyone who recognises this severely neglected pet to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.”

Causing an animal unnecessary suffering is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
