£200k for safer school cycling routes for Bishopbriggs and Lenzie

Meadowburn Primary in Bishopbriggs is to receive £140,000 while Lenzie Meadow Primary School will get £50,000 as part of a project involving Sustrans Scotland.

The sustainable transport charity has awarded £726,340 to local authorities up and down the country to fund 19 new projects that will improve active travel options for school children in Scotland.

The total amount of funding the 19 projects will receive, including funds from both local authorities and Sustrans Scotland, will be almost £1.5m.

The Safer Routes to Schools Fund is Sustrans Scotland’s grant scheme for new infrastructure as identified through the school travel planning process for the financial year 2016/17 and is funded by the Scottish Government through Transport Scotland.

Funded projects aim to increase walking and cycling levels in and around schools. Sustrans hopes it will lead to enhanced safety for pupils travelling to school and reduced congestion and improved air quality around schools.
