Auchengray and Robert Owen Primary pupils farm visits

PUPILS from Robert Owen Primary in Lanark and Auchengray Primary have been down on the farm as part of their class projects.

P1, P2 and P6 Robert Owen pupils went to Auchenheath Farm to learn more about farm life as well as getting close to their favourite animals.

P1-2 class teacher Christine Forbes said: "Pupils were able to visit the calves and lambs as well as the cow and milking sheds. The children really enjoyed themselves."

Meanwhile, Auchengray Primary pupils witnessed a scene of udder destruction during a visit to Lesmahagow's Hawksland Farm.

Principal teacher Jennifer Alexander explained: "During our tour, farmer Willie King told us that, when trying to scratch itself, a bull made a huge indentation in one of the breeze block walls in its byre.

"So there is now a mark of its hind quarters in the wall which Willie will have to get repaired!"

Organised locally by the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET), the visits aim to help children learn more about farming and production.
