Auchlochan Garden Fete in Lesmahagow 2014 Slideshow

RETIREMENT village Auchlochan was packed with families enjoying fun in the sun at the annual garden fete.

Resident Mrs Nessie Jackson had a regal role in opening the day, with the Co-Op funeral service laying on a limousine, complete with Union Jacks, to drive her to the red carpet and a piper to accompany her.

The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of many of the residents and families of the 350 members of staff, as well as youngsters from Lesmahagow and the surrounding villages, enjoyed the bouncy castle, a treasure hunt, Beat the Goalie, hook the duck and their fancy dress costumes.

For the adults there were loads of stalls offering bargains, crazy golf, a birds of prey demonstration and entertainment from Irish and Highland Dancers. The Salvation Army also provided some of the music.

“It was an absolutely fantastic day for the weather,” said one member of staff. “We could not have asked for any better.

“It was well attended by residents, families and friends and the residents loved to see the children running about and enjoying themselves.”

Organised by customer services manager Wendy Wilson, the fete raised more than £1500 for the residents amenity fund which will go towards providing Christmas presents and little extras for those in Bankhouse, Lower Johnshill and Nethanvale, or the independent living homes at Auchlochan.
