Australian interest in Kilsyth’s coat of arms

A COAT of arms used by a community council has attracted international interest.

For a Scottish country dance group in Australia has written to Kilsyth Community Council to gain permission to use their coat of arms as a logo for their organisation.

The group who are based in Kilsyth, Australia, were initially rejected the opportunity to use the logo but following a discussion at a meeting of the community council on Wednesday, August 15, they may be allowed to.

Kilsyth Community Council successfully petitioned the Lord Lyon King of Arms for the grant of coat of arms in 2001.

Margot Macmillan, of Kilsyth Community Council, said: “The Lord Lyon Court advised that permission to use the Kilsyth Community Council coat of arms as a logo by a Scottish country dance group based in Kilsyth, Australia, be refused.

“However, we have been in contact with the group again and have advised them that, at our next meeting in September, we will try to suggest a logo for them which will embody something of the Kilsyth connection and form a relationship between the two towns.

She added: “They are very pleased that we will come up with a design suggestion in September and this will be put to their agm in November.”
