Olly Wyatt’s historical novel ‘The Democrat’ tells the story of 18th century political reformer Thomas Muir, who is closely associated with Huntershill House, in Bishopbriggs.

The 300 page book follows Muir’s travels around the globe, his transportation and escape from Botany Bay and his attempts to get back to Scotland.

It has now been selected as a finalist in the non-fiction biography category of the 2012 Global Ebook Awards.

The final of the awards will be held in America next month.

Olly said: “I’m really pleased to be nominated for the award.

“A book like this about Thomas Muir has never really been done before, it’s about trying to give a unique perspective.

“I’ve done other writing in the past but this is definitely the work I’m most proud of.”
