The work begins on July 11 and the the alternative route for vehicles travelling west will be via A721 Carnwath Road, turn right onto Chapel Street, left onto Glamis Avenue, left onto A73 Stewart Street, continue onto A73 Kirkton Street then finally left onto John Street.

Vehicles travelling in the opposite direction should follow the diversion vice versa.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Enterprise Services Committee, Councillor Chris Thompson, said: “These works are essential to carry out resurfacing of the road at this location.

“Unfortunately it cannot be done without some disruption to road users and we apologise for that.

“We would advise people to avoid the area if at all possible, or if not to try and ensure they allow themselves extra time for their journey.”
