The local trading standards team was handed a national award for its work alongside fellow council teams in Angus and East Renfrewshire.

The three-part project — known as Call Blockers — became the first in the UK to use diversion technology to tackle a problem faced by thousands of people every day.

The group edged out
competition from 10 other local authority partnerships from across the UK.

They picked up the Association for Public Service Excellence Award in the ‘best public/public partnership’ category.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie praised the local initiative for addressing the impact of ‘unsettling’ cold callers on the line.

She said: “What a great result for a really great project that has made such a positive difference to the lives of
so many local people.
