Award winning signage for Rouken Glen Park

The park has been awarded a 3-star visitor attraction rating from Visit Scotland, as well as the prestigious Green Flag status. This annual award is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK.

East Renfrewshire Council’s requirement for high standards and consistent upkeep recently led to a park-wide signage improvement project that was part of the East Renfrewshire Council and Heritage Lottery Fund Park Improvement Project.

The jointly-funded project brings new investment to restore parts of the park to their former glory and for future generations.

A key remit for signmakers Centurion Signs was that signage had to blend in with the natural beauty and wooded surroundings of Rouken Glen.

More than 200 signs are made of solid oak framing and posting, and graphic panelling. The park entrance monolith sign measures three metres high and is now a notable landmark for drivers along Rouken Glen Road.

East Ren environment convener Vincent Waters said: “This splendid signage blends in with the local environment and enhances the park. Its inclusion as part of the Heritage Fund Park Improvement Project will enable visitors to enjoy everything the park has to offer.

“It is clear that the construction and materials used in these signs have certainly achieved the desired effect and have breathed further life into this historic piece of public land.”

Rouken Glen Park, in the heart of East Renfrewshire, is 143 acres of family friendly green space, where locals flock to for peace and tranquillity.

The park was gifted to the people of Glasgow to use as a place of leisure and enjoyment in 1906, before the City signed the park over to Eastwood District Council on a lease for 125 years.
