Beautiful Scotland judges visit town

THE LAST of the five local communities up for a Beautiful Scotland accolade were visited by judges last week.

Judges were shown round both Condorrat and Cumbernauld Village on Wednesday, August 11, taking in a range of improvements which have been made over the last year.

Oliver Allen secretary of the Cumbernauld Village Community Council, was there on the day. He said: "I think the judging went really well, they seemed really pleased with the progress we have made. They were especially impressed with Langriggs and the quality of regeneration work done there."

Judges also visited the gardens throughout the village and looked at benches and planters donated by care home residents.

John Burke, vice chairman of the Condorrat Residents and Tenants Association was also pleased by the response of judges in Condorrat. He said: "The judges were very impressed. We showed them the good and the bad and they admired our honesty. We told them about our new neighbourhood watch scheme that already has 72 members, and showed them round the gardens and the bird boxes we have put up."

Judges previously visited Kilsyth, Banton and Cumbernauld town centre.

Around 73 communities throughout Scotland are vying for a Beautiful Scotland accolade.
