A CHARITY event hosted by a Clydesdale businessman benefited from a chance visit from some of the cast of the Strictly Come Dancing UK tour company.

And the evening ended up raising a total of 53,000.

Belstane Horse Racing Stables in Carluke, owned by Gordon McDowall, was

hosting a fundraising charity ball to help Cancer Support Scotland (Tak Tent) raise the much-needed funds for a new drop-in centre.

The ball was held in the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow and the Strictly Come Dancing crew, currently appearing at the SECC, were staying at the hotel when approached by members of the charity to ask for their help.

Ricky Groves and Natalie Cassidy of Eastenders fame along with Chris Hollins, Presenter of BBC's Breakfast's sport, and professional dancer Erin Boag auctioned a signed programme from their tour team and even then auctioned themselves for bidders to dance with them.

Event organiser Christina Wright said: "The crowd were delighted to have them join in and having them offer themselves to dance was a wonderful gesture. This raised another 1500 on the night."
