Ben Hastie's mum hits out at grave robbers

THE mother of tragic schoolboy Ben Hastie has hit out after finding one of his treasured toys missing from his grave.

Five-year-old Ben was killed in a freak accident two years ago as his dad was driving him home.

Heartbroken mum Liz Anderson, of Elmbank Street, tends his grave in Wilton Cemetery and was given a cuddly dinosaur to take down to the graveside by a family friend just after Ben's death

However, this week Liz discovered that the toy had vanished.

The 37-year-old said: "Ben loved dinosaurs. We used to say that he was dinosaur daft.

"It's been there for over two years and the workers down at the cemetery know that it's to be left which, to their credit, they always do.

"I know it's definitely not one of them so someone has stolen it from Ben's grave. In my opinion it's the lowest of the low."

A council spokeswoman said: "Our staff do their best to keep their eye on things but anything left by a graveside is left at the person's own risk."
