Bid to extend Clyde Windfarm

REPRESENTATIVES from Scottish and Southern Energy met Upperward residents as the company bids to extend the largest onshore windfarm in Europe.

The Scottish Government announced that the Clyde Windfarm, divided by the M74 running between Abington, Elvanfoot and Crawford, would be constructed last year.

However, SSE has already announced plans for an extension to the windfarm — which has still to be constructed.

At open days in Tweedsmuir, Broughton and Abington those involved with the extension, including project manager Gillian Craig, got the chance to meet locals.

Gillian said: "We have a steady flow of people coming to Abington and our display in Tweedsmuir was also a big success.

"At the moment we are at a very early stage so the key is to go out to the community.

"So far it's been fairly positive but we have to take the opinion of everyone on board.

"It's a new application from our point of view and we need as much feedback as possible."

Gillian added that SSE would be looking to put the final application to the Scottish Government during the first quarter of next year.
