BID’s Giffnock Village is open for business

GIFFNOCK Village is the place to be this Christmas — whether that’s in real life, or on social media.

Giffnock BID — voted into action this summer by a majority of the area’s businesses — has launched official Facebook and Twitter pages this week, aiming to give the 94 companies on Fenwick Road a welcome Christmas boost.

The Facebook page has attracted 475 followers in under a week, with the Twitter feed following behind.

The group is led by Giann Celino of Andiamo and Sohail Ghafur of Giffnock post office, and the rest of the committee is made up of The Ivy restaurant, Whole Foods Market, Man’s World, The Salon, First Floors and Quality Show Repairs.

A BID representative told The Extra: “There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for this initiative, and the first aim is to brand Giffnock and put it on the southside map.

Giffnock Village will soon decorate lamp posts, starting a series of marketing initiatives and events, and will aim to enhance Giffnock’s presence at East Ren’s well-established events.”

The Giffnock BID group follows a similar scheme in Clarkston, where the I Love Clarkston campaign has been picked up by a new committee following a board resignation earlier this year.

There are lots of plans for the Giffnock Village scheme, including a pocket map of local businesses, involvement in events like Electric Glen (in February 2014) and a dedicated website planned for spring next year.

For now, local news and events — as well as reasons to shop locally this Christmas — are online at www.facebook.com/GiffnockVillage or www.twitter.com/GiffnockVillage.
