Big donation and expansion plans for First Responders

East Renfrewshire’s First Responders have been presented with a new 4x4 by Arnold Clark to aid those in need of emergency medical care.

The Neilston and Uplawmoor First Responders recently announced that the service would be expanded to Newton Mearns.

Led by Stuart McLellan and Ross Nelson, the team have attended almost 300 call outs since forming in January last year.

Now, they have an additional vehicle to aid both communities, handed over by Arnold Clark’s head of communications Lee Ann Edison at an event attended by politicians, St John Ambulance representatives and donors.

First Responders supported and Scottish Conservative deputy leader Jackson Carlaw welcomed the donation, commenting: “The vehicle generously provided by Arnold Clark will allow for greater coverage and therefore more help for those in need of emergency medical help.

“I’m also very excited by the news that the Newton Mearns First Responders will be able to benefit from the experience of Stuart and his team.

“It’s great news for the people of East Renfrewshire, but it will only be possible to repeat the success seen in Neilston if local people volunteer.

“I would urge anyone who would like to make a difference in their community to contact Stuart and become part of this remarkable organisation.”
