Biggar High student Rachael Riddoch reaches next round of Open Mic UK

A BIGGAR High student wooed the judges at a national talent competition — despite the audition being her first time on stage!

Rachael Riddoch (17) made it through to the next round of Open Mic UK after impressing music moguls with her version of Paulo Nutini's Candy.

Incredibly it was the first time she had ever performed before an audience or even been on stage but that didn't stop Rachael from winning through into the next round.

Now Rachael, who lives in Dolphinton, is gearing up for another performance at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on October 2, in the regional finals.

She said: "I thought the audition was fun. There were a lot of

serious singers there who played their own songs so it was nothing like the X Factor.

"There was roughly about 1000 people there so I was really pleased to get through."
