Biggar Museum will go ahead come hell or high water

THE collecting cans are back out in Biggar as the town’s Museum Trust launches an appeal for a further £270,000.

It is turning again to the community and the past supporters who helped raise a record £450,000 over two years ago to buy the Stephens Garage site and start to convert it into a new museum.

The Trust has had to ask again because it has been turned down by the National Lottery’s Heritage Fund.

“We are not going to throw in the towel,” said Trust chairman James Dawnay.

“We are going to complete this project come hell or high water.”

He is determined that work will start on the garage site in the spring.

And he is outraged that the Lottery money went to a government agency, rather than the Biggar voluntary group.
