Biggar to Edinburgh bus inquiry beset by problems

A DOUBLE dose of bad luck hit the first day of the official inquiry into the problem 100 series bus service between Biggar and Edinburgh, Clydesdale’s only direct coach link to the capital.

The first day of the probe by the Scottish Traffic Commissioner last Wednesday in Edinburgh had to be cut short after proceedings were first stalled by a powercut and then by the sudden illness of one of the witnesses.

However, local public transport campaigners are reported to be glad that at least the inquiry had got underway.

The probe was prompted by the cancellation late last year of the contract to run the service, given to Borders company MacEwans by the public transport subsidy authority SPT.
