Biggar Vintage Car Rally 2010

THE long modern day traffic jams on the approaches to Biggar told their own story of just what a massive draw hundreds of veteran vehicles of yesteryear can be.

For they bore witness to the continuing popularity of the Biggar Rally, now in its 38th year.

Exact attendance figures were not available at time of going to press but it is thought that this year's rally attracted record numbers.

The examples of automotive history on show spanned the decades from the birth of motoring in the early 1900s all the way to sleek sports models of the 1980s with a hundred times more horsepower.

The car might be the star of this show for the majority of spectators but the bus, lorry, motorcycle, tractor and military vehicle enthusiasts were well catered for too with big entries.

Helen Carrick, speaking for the organisers, told the Gazette: "It was marvellous to see so many entrants and so many members of the public coming here to the Rally again from all over the country."
