Bird-brained appeal
Our parakeet-spotting readers are continuing to see the rare birds in East Dunbartonshire.
Our previous story reported a family of five in Bishopbriggs Golf Course, and this week reader Harry Williamson (55) spotted two on three separate occasions on the canal bank at Torrance. He is urging people to report any sightings to the RSPB to log their locations around the country.
Harry said: ‘‘I was cycling along the canal and heard this strange noise. It was certainly unusual. It was green, with a red beak, about 15 inches long.
‘‘Parakeets come from India, near the Himalayas, and that’s why they do well in the cold.’’
