Blackwood Primary teachers set to skydive for charity

BLACKWOOD Primary teachers Alyson Farry and Marianne Stewart will be taking a break from class - by skydiving over 10,000 feet in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

Primary six teacher Alyson (30) and 26-year-old Marianne, who teaches primary one, were supposed to complete their tandem skydive on Saturday in Glenrothes but it had to be rescheduled because of the bad weather.

However, the one good thing is that they have managed to raise over £2000 for the charity, which helps fund research and raise awareness of heart disease.

The charity has a special significance for Alyson as her dad Jim, a former Scottish Football Association chief executive, suffered a heart attack and died in November 2010.

She said: “A lot of people remember my dad because of the job he had, but away from work he was very family-orientated and obviously he was a huge part of my life.

“When I was fundraising I went to our local rugby club in Cambuslang and raised just over £600, so it just shows how well he was thought of by people there.

“I wanted to do something for my 30th birthday so I decided this would be a great way of doing something different and raising money for charity and once I told Marianne she was desperate to do it as well.”
