Blooming best for Busby flower girls

The local group was one of 56 from all over Scotland taking part in the Roots, Shoots and Fruits flower festival, and was invited to decorate the chancel in time for a thanksgiving service marking the start of the Commonwealth Games.

Chairman Marjorie Todd told The Extra: “Planning of designs started early in the year and various visits to the cathedral took place — it was a challenge to decorate such a prestigious area.

“The end results were blooming great, and the Busby girls could hold their heads high.”

Fancy arrangements prepared for the flower show didn’t go to waste, as the club said thank you to sponsors East Renfrewshire Council — alongside Arnold Clark and John Fulton Plumbers — by distributing them to care homes Williamwood House, Westacres and Crookfur.

Marjorie added: “It was a lovely ending to our project to share the flowers and give pleasure to those who would otherwise not have had the opportunity to see what the local ladies get up to in their spare time.”

Busby Flower Club — formed in 1960 — is the third largest of its kind in Scotland and meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month, 7.30pm at the Redhurst Hotel. The next meeting is on September 23 and new members are welcome along.
