Blooming great effort from charity group

The Marie Curie Southside Fundraising Group has raked in over £500 from its recent Blooming Great Tea Party.

Vicky Thomas, secretary of the Marie Curie Glasgow Southside Fundraising Group, organised the fundraiser at her brother’s house in Lochwinnoch.

There, some 80 guests were treated to a raffle, tombola and a bouncy castle, as well as games for the kids.

Ms Thomas joined the group in gratitude for the care her mother had received from Marie Curie nurses.

She told The Extra: “I had planned the party weeks in advance but with the sudden death of my father, things were put on the backburner.

“There was a lot of last minute organising to ensure the party went ahead.

“Thankfully I received a lot of help from my brother and his housemates, who were also kind enough to allow me to use their beautiful country house.”

Prizes included leather purses, perfume, jewellery and champagne, as well as large framed photo of the Forth Road Bridge kindly donated by Ian Cook Photography.

Vicky continued: “By the end of the day we were giving the cakes away as we had so many kindly baked by family and friends for the day.

“This was the first event I have organised so far and I think next time we will do even better.”

Susan Cuthbert, community fundraiser at Marie Curie, added: “Please get in touch on 557 7561 or [email protected] if you would like to find out more about joining the group in Glasgow’s southside — let’s make sure the fantastic fundraising in the area continues.”
