BMX club is back on track

After a long absence, the Cumbernauld BMX Club has been re-launched and recently held a hugely successful open day at the town's partially refurbished track in Westfield.

Steven Stobbart, one of the organisers, said: "It was a really big surprise to me how many people turned up.

"I thought we would maybe get 20 or so, but we reckon around 70 people turned up over the course of the day.

"We had riders there from Clydebank BMX Club and there were others who came up from England for the Scottish BMX Open Championships.

"They came along just to talk to people about the sport."

Steven (34), of Blackwood, and friend Mark McPake have big plans for the club and have already been approached by dozens of people who want to join.

He added: "I was a member of the Cumbernauld club between 86 and 93. I just started back in March this year.

"It's now an Olympic sport and we are just trying to promote it.

The club is hoping to secure sponsorship. If you can help or would just like more information visit the website at cumbernauldbmxclub.webs.com
