Book has all the right ingredients

‘Our Fair Trade Recipe Book’ is bursting with mouth-watering recipes harvested from local nurseries and Fairtrade Town groups in Lenzie, Bearsden and Milngavie.

Some 700 copies of the book have now been sold - raising funds for Fairtrade and awareness of the good work being done.

The book costs £2 - with over £1 from every sale going to support children in a developing country.

That has resulted in more than £400 being raised for children in Malawi - in addition to any funds generated by nurseries.

East Dunbartonshire Council has been working closely with Fairtrade groups to encourage people to get involved and make a difference.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie, who wrote the foreword for the book, said: “The local appetite for Fairtrade is inspirational. More people are realising the benefits of paying a fair price for excellent quality food, drink and goods.

“Working together has always been a cornerstone of East Dunbartonshire’s Fair Trade achievements, and this recipe book follows in that tradition.

“I hope the book continues to inspire people to try new dishes with fairly-traded ingredients, and encourage them to support the important and rewarding Fair Trade agenda.”

Just 300 copies of the book are left.

It is available from Fair Trade groups, Billington’s in Lenzie, The Coach House in Balmore, the Leisuredrome café in Bishopbriggs, nurseries and churches.
