Following a video and presentation the boys then enjoyed questioning the chaplain on a wide range of topics ranging from his own chaplaincy in the Lodging House Mission to the services it provides.

The Mission gives people the opportunity to get their lives back on track by enabling them to develop new skills and feelings of self worth. This is achieved by: providing a safe place with access to educational opportunities and recreational activities; food; essential facilities including showers, telephone, laundry and internet; support staff and counsellors.

A cheque for £400 was presented to the chaplain funded from the boys’ weekly collections to aid him and the work of his organisation.

Chaplain McKay accepted the cheque with sincere thanks and told the boys that the money will be used to help support a weeks retreat in Pitlochry for ten of the Lodging House Mission’s service users. He also acknowledged the support provided by the senior boys who volunteer to help sort harvest donations as well as that of Lieutenant McGowan who volunteers in the mission throughout the year.

All sections of the 278 Glasgow Boys’ Brigade meet in Netherlee Parish Church and are currently recruiting: Anchor Boys (P1-P3) on Monday from 6-7pm, Junior Section (P4-P6) on Tuesday from 7-8.45pm and Company Section (P7-S6) on Fridays from 7-10pm.
