Brave Cumbernauld crash out of Junior Cup

WITH the Scottish Junior Cup taking precedence over all other trophies, Cumbernauld United found themselves yet again mixing it with the big boys at the weekend.

Last week’s incredible 5-5 draw with Super League Premier side Beith meant a replay would be required, and United will have been confident of causing an upset in front of their own supporters.

Sadly, it wasn’t to be, and the Guy’s Meadow side went down one-nil in a game that was in stark contrast to the high-scoring affair of the previous week.

Elsewhere, Kilsyth Rangers thumped Dalry Thistle 5-1 to move to within a point of league leaders Glenafton, with a game in hand.

In all competitions, Rangers have played 11 so far, and Saturday was the sixth time their potent attack has notched three or more goals in a game.

In senior football, Clyde made the long journey to Peterhead and took a share of the spoils after the game finished goalless.

A difficult away tie was made all the more tricky when Bully Wee captain Paul Hay saw red in the closing stages, following two bookable offences, but the team dug deep and managed to hold on.
