Brave daughter's rising to the challenge in memory of her dad

research into the disease - in the hope of finding a cure.

Pauline Cameron (43) is doing the 3 Peaks Challenge, which involves climbing the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) in just 24 hours - to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research.

What makes this even more poignant is that Pauline will be doing this challenge on what would have been her dad’s 68th birthday (September 10).

Her dad Bill Kerr, who lived in the Baljaffray area of Bearsden for nearly 40 years, was diagnosed with brain cancer in January 2015 after he had a seizure a few months earlier.

Part of his brain tumour was removed but it wasn’t possible to take away all of it.

He responded so well to a course of chemotherapy that he continued with his favourite hobby - golf.

Sadly his condition had deteriorated by the beginning of this year and he passed away in April this year surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife Maureen and their three daughters Pauline, Alison (46) and Gillian (40) and five grandchildren.

Bill was a keen golfer and life member at Windyhill Golf Club in Bearsden and Pauline jokes that it was his second home.

She said: He absolutely loved golf and continued to play as long as he was able to.

“His friends say he always had a smile on his face - in fact they say they can’t picture him now without a big grin.

“He was a lovely man, truly amazing and my hero.

“Throughout his illness he showed true strength and never complained.

“He never asked ‘why me? In fact he used to say ‘why not me?

“My dad offered to take part in trials for new drugs when he was unwell so I’m sure he will be pleased that I’m raising money for more specialised research into this.

“This area of cancer research is incredibly underfunded - it only receives one per cent of national cancer research spending even though 20 per cent of all cancers spread to the brain.

“Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.”

Pauline has been busy training for her epic challenge by walking Munros at weekends and Dumgoyne during the week.

She has also been going to the gym regularly to stay fit.
