Bring on the Games

WITH Olympic fever sweeping the nation, Scotland’s sports minister could not have picked a better time to launch an investment programme which aims to get the country active.

The 2012 Games for Scotland programme was officially announced at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld on Thursday, July 26, by minister for Commonwealth Games and sport, MSP Shona Robison.

The £600,000 investment programme will support events across the country designed to engage communities in the countdown to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

North Lanarkshire was chosen to the launch the programme because the Commonwealth Games triathlon will take place in Strathclyde Park in 2014.

The local authority will also receive cash from the fund to support its own event ‘The Games’ which takes place on October 21.
