British Legion call for MoD hospital wins MP’s backing

LOCAL veterans recently gave their support to local MP Gregg McClymont, who is backing efforts to bring a military hospital to Scotland.

The Royal British Legion Scotland is campaigning for a hospital to ease the burden of travel for Scots families, and Gregg called in at the Legion branch in Cumbernauld before meeting with David Mundell, parliamentary under-secretary of state for Scotland and Legion representative Alistair McLean.

Said Gregg afterwards: “I was pleased to meet David Mundell to support the Royal British Legion Scotland campaign for locating a Military Hospital Unit in Scotland.  Alistair McLean made a strong case for such a unit.

“I am delighted at the support from the Cumbernauld British Legion and I’ll continue to pursue this in concert with Royal British Legion Scotland.”

Jim Keyes, secretary of the Cumbernauld Legion, said: “The amount of travel to military hospitals that has to be done by families is not sustainable. It places a considerable financial burden on people.”
