Broons recipes at New Lanark dinner

THE organisers of the annual St Andrew's Day Dinner at New Lanark's Mill Hotel must have been wondering if Scotland's patron saint hadn't deserted them this year.

The dinner is run by the Food Trust Scotland under the leadership of well-known local businessman Arthur Bell, its aim to promote the very best that Caledonian cusine has to offer.

This year's guest of honour WAS to be the Scottish Government's agriculture minister Richard Lochead.

But urgent European Union business called Mr Lochhead away on that date.

And his stand-in, Scottish transport and then climate minister Stewart Stevenson, had to cry off – due to the winter transport chaos.

Finally, the Trust had to call on a local resident with not too far to travel.

Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland and Biggar

resident, became the third – and final – guest speaker at the event.

The theme of this year's dinner menu was Maw Broon's Cookbook.
