Bullying action called for at Carnwath Primary School

AN ANGRY and frustrated parent has called for stronger action on bullying at a Clydesdale primary school after his son was hospitalised following a playground attack.

Due to legal reasons, neither the injured child nor his alleged attacker can be named.

But the incident happened at Carnwath Primary School on December 13 when a P6 pupil playing during a break was kicked in the face by a P7 pupil.

The child was taken to Wishaw General Hospital to be checked for a suspected broken nose but was released after treatment for severe bruising.

The pupil allegedly responsible received a five day exclusion from school, a 'punishment' described by the victim's father as "little more than a reward of an early Christmas holiday for injuring my son".

A spokeswoman for South Lanarkshire Council said she could not comment on any aspects of the individual case.

However, she added: "Schools throughout South Lanarkshire adopt a no tolerance approach to bullying."
