Business awards boost for local charities and good causes

It won’t just be businesses and entrepreneurs who will be the winners at the first East Dunbartonshire Business Awards.

Good causes are also in line for a financial boost.

However, East Dunbartonshire Council needs your help to identify the most deserving local causes.

The East Dunbartonshire Business Awards 2014 will be a celebration of good work taking place within boardrooms, workshops, social enterprises, bars, restaurants and retail outlets across the area.

There are 10 chances at glory for local firms. The awards - to be judged locally by a panel of experts - will be handed out on May 9 at an event in The Eagle Lodge, Bishopbriggs.

However, a key part of the evening will be the raising of funds for charities and good causes. Last year’s East Dunbartonshire charity dinner - hosted by council leader Rhondda Geekie - raised a significant sum for local good causes. This year it has been incorporated into the business awards night.

Councillor Geekie said: “The awards event is going to be a very special occasion which will not only celebrate local success stories, but also highlight the tremendous work being done by the unsung heroes who work for charities and organisations in East Dunbartonshire.

“I hope that people seize the chance to nominate a charity or organisation of their choice to receive funds.

“We are looking for a variety of recipients locally which are helping to change the lives of people in East Dunbartonshire for the better.

“We would like to hear about good causes in a wide range of areas, including those working on behalf of children, the elderly, people with additional support needs, the environment, animal care and those working on behalf of the unemployed and young entrepreneurs.”

The closing date for nominations for the business awards, charities and local good causes, is April 11. Forms are available via the council website - www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/businessawards - and packs can be sent out. Call 0141 578 8530 or e-mail [email protected]
