More than £7,000 was raised at the inaugural East Dunbartonshire Business Awards final thanks to the generosity of individuals, organisations and enterprises who contributed to the raffle and auction.

The fantastic sum has now been split between a variety of good causes helping communities across East Dunbartonshire.

The charities each receiving £600 are Lenzie Youth Club, Milngavie Pipe Band, Bearsden Festival, Campsie Memorial Hall, East Dunbartonshire Food Bank, East Dunbartonshire Visually Impaired People’s Forum, Kirkintilloch Olympians, the Monday Club, Milngavie Youth Centre and Kirkintilloch Pipe Band.

In addition, Jennifer Kitchener - a pupil at Merkland School, Kirkintilloch - is receiving £600 towards her dream of representing Great Britain in Los Angeles next July, as part of the 4x100m relay team.

The final of the East Dunbartonshire Business Awards 2014 was held on Friday, May 9 at The Eagle Lodge, Bishopbriggs, and a key part of the evening was the raising of funds for charities and organisations.

Last year’s East Dunbartonshire Charity Dinner - hosted by council leader Rhondda Geekie - raised a significant sum for local good causes.

This year it was decided to incorporate the fundraising dinner into the programme for the inaugural East Dunbartonshire Business Awards night.

Rhondda Geekie said: “I am delighted at the support for the fundraising auction and raffle - both in terms of donations before the event and also on the night itself from the assembled guests.

“It is genuinely inspirational to hear the great work taking place in our communities and I know from speaking to some of the recipients just how valuable support of this kind is.

“I would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who contributed to the wonderful amount raised - it is genuinely much appreciated.

“Well done to all the award winners on the night and a special thank-you to everyone who bought raffle tickets and took part in the auction. There was a terrific range of prizes on offer - all of which were kindly donated - and I am very grateful.

“The fantastic support for the fundraising auction and raffle are tremendous examples of local businesses’ continuing support for good causes across the area.”
