Bypasspoised to open

A MAJOR milestone for the M80 Haggs to Stepps project will be reached next week when the new Moodiesburn bypass will be opened to traffic.

The early opening of the stretch of road from Hornshill to Mollinsburn, is dependent on weather conditions and will be undertaken while works continue to complete this section.

The road will initially open to northbound traffic onlly and is pected to open to southbound traffic around a week later.

Given the ongoing works, a 40mph speed limit will be in operation over the length of new bypass until summer 2011, with average speed cameras now also covering this stretch.

Non-motorway vehicles travelling southbound will not be permitted to use the new Moodiesburn Bypass.

Keith Brown, Scotland’s transport minister, is scheduled to visit the A80 works today (Wednesday), to see for himself the finishing touches to the massive project.

Details of how the traffic will be managed can be found on Transport Scotland’s website at www.transportscotland.gov.uk.
