Calf pneumonia on agenda at second Clyde Monitor Farm meeting
CALF Pneumonia was discussed at the second Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) Clyde Monitor Farm meeting, hosted by Monitor Farmer, Andrew Baillie of Carstairs Mains.
Charles Marwood, a veterinary surgeon with the Clyde Vet Group, told the group that, to control pneumonia, it was important to consider the variety of causes of the disease, which reduces an animal’s liveweight gain and performance for its entire life.
He listed and explained some of the risk factors which can influence the chances of calves succumbing to pneumonia including stress, diet and nutrition and BVD.
