Call for Antonine visitor centre to be based locally

CALLS are being made for a visitor centre to be built at a popular tourist attraction.

Historic Scotland have launched a consultation to find out people’s views on ways they can improve facilities at the Antonine Wall.

Several community groups in Kilsyth believe that a visitor centre should be built in the area and are forwarding their views on to Historic Scotland before the consultation ends on June 29.

The groups include Kilsyth and Villages Community Forum, Friends of Kelvin Valley Park and Kilsyth Community Council.

Paul Carter, vice chairman of the Kilsyth and Villages Community Forum, said: “I would like to see a visitor centre in this area because we have the best part of the Antonine Wall.

“There are two buildings already in existence which could be used for this including Croy Miners’ and Twechar Healthy Living Centre.”
