Jamie said: “The council chose to press ahead with closing Abronhill Nursery during the dissolution period of the Scottish Parliament, when there were no MSPs elected to represent constituents. I want the council to revisit its decision.

“North Lanarkshire Council must respect the views of those who use and value the service provided by Abronhill Nursery.”

A council spokesman said: “We carried out a thorough consultation on proposals to close Abronhill Nursery School and all interested parties including politicians and HMIe.

“This has been concluded and we await the Ministers’ decision.”
