Calling all pluckers and artists – get along to Mayfest!

ADD another string to your bow! A popular festival returns once again in just over a fortnight – and you are being urged to take part.

Supported by G66+live and East Dunbartonshire Arts Council, Milton of Campsie Village Hall Trust once again presents its 2012 Mayfest of art and music.

A special invite has been issued this week to young people. There are four FREE participation events, so book by phone as soon as you can as numbers are limited.

* The ‘Concert by Young Folk’ is on Saturday, May 19, from 2.30pm, with instrumental solos, duos, trios, songs, etc, by five to 17-year-olds. To take part call 01360 311944 now.

* Also on Saturday, May 19, from 2.30pm, there’s Derek Gray’s Art Workshop ‘Cartooning Faces – Getting that Expression!’ for six to 13-year-olds. Call 01360 312861.

* The Silk Painting Workshop on Sunday, May 20, 10.30am-noon is for all ages with artist Carla Faulkner. Telephone 01360 313228.

* And on Sunday, May 20, 10.30am-12.30 pm, Wilma Young runs a Fiddle Workshop as a taster for all ages. Violins provided. Call 01360 238161.

This year’s Mayfest promises to be as popular and successful as ever, with a whole host of entertainment.

The Mayfest week itself starts with a bang on Sunday, May 13, with Andrew Greig’s swinging pop band ‘Factor Forte’.

Then on Monday, May 14, there’s the Mayfest three-mile countryside walk for all, led by Iain Brown, leaving the village hall at 10am.

The week ends with concerts of Celtic Folk on Friday, May 18; Baroque Music, Saturday, May 19; and Afternoon Jazz, Sunday, May 20.

All are invited to enjoy the art and craftwork on display from 5pm on Friday, May 18, and Fairtrade refreshments.
