Campaign for chemotherapy at Stobhill moves forward

A campaigner fighting to secure cancer treatments at Stobhill Hospital has joined forces with the Scottish Health Campaigns Network.

Tom Herbert has been striving to have chemotherapy delivered from the new Stobhill Hospital for several years.

He is now being backed by the Scottish Health Campaigns Network, which supports communities with health-related concerns.

They recently met with Health Secretary Alex Neil.

Currently patients from Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs and surrounding areas have to travel to the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre at Gartnavel Hospital for treatment.

Campaigners say that having chemotherapy at the new Stobhill Hospital was in the original plans and it was meant to be a mirror image of the Victoria Infirmary.

However, Greater Glasgow and Clyde has previously said that, having investigated all options, chemotherapy will only be provided from the Beatson and the Victoria Infirmary.

Mr Herbert, from Lenzie, said: “I’ve been working with the Scottish Health Campaigns Network to try and take things forward.

“Alex Neil said he would look into the situation.

“We’re not giving up the fight.”
