Can you inspire improvements in Lenzie?

That’s the message from East Dunbartonshire Council’s Transport and Access Team, who are heading up the new Lenzie Improvement Project.

Members of the community, including residents, business owners and commuters, are being urged to give their views on where and how work could take place.

A council spokesman said: “There are no firm proposals at the moment - it will all be inspired and led by comments and feedback.

“The aim is to improve the public realm in Lenzie village centre and also Lenzie Rail Station”.

The first public engagement event will take place within Lenzie Station car park on Tuesday September 27, from 3-7pm.

Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of Development and Regeneration, said, “This is a very exciting project and another great example of how planning gain can be used to benefit local communities - with all funding being provided by housebuilders.

“We want to hear people’s views on how to enhance the public realm of Lenzie and encourage sustainable travel - improving links between all modes

of transport - whether they are using rail, bus, cycle or walking.

“The event on September 27 aims to inform the community, business owners and station users of the project, while asking for input and ideas from

people of all ages and backgrounds.

“We want as much input from Lenzie residents and businesses as possible, with all contributions and ideas welcome.

“Please note, Lenzie Station is not owned by the Council so we have limited influence in implementing changes to the station itself. However, it is

hopeful that improvements can be made to the car park layout and bus waiting facilities - in conjunction with Network Rail and ScotRail/Abellio.

“We will also be working on a new parking strategy for the area, potentially including short-term parking which will benefit businesses.”

Sustrans Scotland will be assisting with design options, public engagement and consultation workshops.

It is envisaged there will be a design workshop in November, with another event in January to provide information and gather views.

Feedback will then be used to form design proposals which will be trialled in April 2017.
