Can you solve mystery of Gunner John Scott

CAN anyone solve a 70-year-old mystery surrounding a simple gravestone at Lanark Cemetery?

One of the few certainties is that the young man resting under it died serving his country at its hour of direst need.

That apart, the bare details that stone reveals are that his name was John Scott, that he held the rank of Gunner in the Lanarkshire Yeomanry and that he died on March 10, 1940 at the age of 20 years old.

The Lanarkshire Yeomanry Group, an organisation created to preserve the memory of our area's former territorial unit, wants to fill in the gaps in the life - and death - of Gunner John Scott.

Leading this quest is the Group's Campbell Thomson who said: "During research, we discovered that Gunner Scott was in fact buried in Lanark. But how and where he died is a mystery."

If anyone has answers, Campbell can be contacted at [email protected] or on 01698 382330.
