Capsized boat prompts police warning over water safety

Police have warned people to take care around water after a boat capsized in the Forth and Clyde Canal.

The accident happened near Torrance at around 7.25pm on Saturday, July 13.

Emergency services were called out and a total of 10 men ended up having to wade their way to shore.

Chief Inspector Hay, who took over as area commander of East Dunbartonshire last month, said: “I would take this opportunity to remind members of the public of the potential dangers associated with recreational use of waterways and advise in the strongest terms against doing so whilst under the influence of alcohol.

“The persons involved in this incident should consider themselves extremely lucky there was not a more tragic outcome.”
