Car link to escaped prisoner

Police have linked a stolen car found in New Stevenston to missing prisoner Tony Ferri who has been on the run for four days.

The 33-year-old, of New View Drive, Bellshill, escaped after assaulting two security guards. At the time he was being taken back to Addiewell Prison in West Lothian after a hospital visit.

A Renault Megane car was stolen in Livingston on Friday and police believe its theft is linked to Ferri’s escape. The vehicle was found in Stevenston Court, New Stevenston, on Sunday evening.

Ferri has a long record, much of it for car theft and other crimes of dishonesty.

Police are urging anyone who remembers seeing the driver of the Megane, or has any information about Ferri’s whereabouts, to come forward.

Detective Inspector Paul Batten said: “The discovery of this vehicle is of significant interest to our investigation.

“We are very keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing the individual who left the Renault Megane within Stevenston Court on Sunday evening, or who believes they may have seen Ferri in this area.”
