Car nuts turn nasty in Kilsyth

Kilsyth Sports Field has suffered extensive damage after boy racers drove over it in modified cars and left its grass surface in ribbons.

The act of destruction took place on Sunday evening as part of a pre-arranged meeting co-ordinated for so-called ‘cruisers’ via Facebook.

The participants had already discussed driving on the grass before they arrived.

And in a sickening twist, pitch users Kilsyth Amateurs were baited by those responsible when the club showcased the damage on its own Facebook page.

Some culprits stooped to foul language and thinly-veiled threats in a bid to undermine the club and its fans – before stressing that drivers did a lot for charity.

Now police are examining the profiles of those involved as part of their enquiries.

A Kilsyth Amateurs spokesman said: “We are just one of the many clubs who rely on the pitch to fulfil our fixtures. These facilities are limited in Kilsyth so a lot of teams will have to look outwith the town.”

Meanwhile irate Councillor Alan Stevenson said: “The comments online were also a disgrace and the local community is quite rightly up in arms.”
