Carbrain ex-army man Alex back on regimental duty

FORMER soldier Alex Alum has been attending more regimental events for last month’s Armed Forces celebrations.

Retired goods driver Alex served with the Royal Scots Greys for whom he drove 6x6 wheeled Alvis Stalwart amphibious trucks.

Today, Alex, of Carbrain, remains a highly active member of his regimental association, as these pictures prove.

One was taken at the veterans’ march for Armed Forces Day in Glasgow last month.

The Association members met up in Holland Street and paraded to George Square.

Said Alex: “After the parade all the troops and associations who took part in the parade were invited into the City Chambers as guests of the Lord Provost for refreshments and a well laid on buffet.” And inside the City Chambers, Alex met up with an elderly and hughly-decorated veteran (centre, below), who shared a few of his stories, and despite his years he also took part in the weekend’s other parade in Edinburgh, as did Alex.

The Edinburgh Parade was from Edinburgh castle down the Royal Mile.

Some 2500 active and former servicemen and women paraded from Edinburgh Castle and down the Royal Mile, with the Duke of Rothesay - otherwise known as Prince Charles - taking the salute in front of the Scottish Parliament. Also present were Prime Minister David Cameron and Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond.
