Cardinal Keith O’Brien joins Lanark parishioners at St Mary’s Church

A NEW era began in the 150 year-long history of Lanark’s St Mary’s Church with a visit to the newly refurbished chapel by Scotland’s leading Roman Catholic, Cardinal Keith O’Brien.

Not only did the cardinal join parishioners in the morning Mass that day but also chatted with them in the far less formal setting of breakfast at the also renovated church clubrooms.

Lanark’s parish priest, Father Joseph Brannigan, expressed his gratitude to the cardinal on behalf of his parishioners for coming to Lanark to celebrate the church’s re-opening after a lengthy facelift and he added: “I know all who attended found the experience very uplifting.”
