Cardinal Keith O’Brien visits Lanark’s St Mary’s Primary School

SCOTLAND’S leading Roman Catholic clergyman came to Lanark late last week to mark the formal beginning of a new era for the town’s St Mary’s Primary School.

Some might have reflected during Thursday’s blessing of the new school building off Smyllum Road that, now nearing retirement, the veteran Cardinal Keith O’Brien would have been of primary school age himself at the time the original St Mary’s School was built on the site, it going on to serve generations of Catholic children from Lanark and the surrounding area for the next seven decades.
