Carlibar kids draw on national treasures

The school’s P5-6s took part in sessions led by the National Galleries of Scotland education team, creating clay pieces based on Benjamin West’s Death of a Stag, from the national collection.

Councillor Paul O’Kane, East Renfrewshire education and equalities convener, said: “This is a fantastic programme for our pupils to get involved in.

“Scotland’s art collections is one of the finest anywhere and projects such as this can only inspire our young people and get them excited about learning and and about art.”

Linda McClelland, Playfair coordinator at National Galleries, added: “Visiting schools is a great way to make face-to-face contact with teachers and their pupils and to introduce them to the National Galleries of Scotland and their national collection of artworks.

“It’s always a joy to spend time in schools getting young people excited about art. We’re very grateful to the council teams who helped set up these sessions.”
